The Space Between

A divider is a pause, not a wall. It marks where one space ends and another begins, and leaves the door open between them.
Indoors, it sets an entry apart from a living room. Outdoors, a courtyard from a garden. The room stays whole, but now it has places within it.
Light still travels. So do sightlines, voices, the movement of someone passing on the other side. Nothing is shut out, only softened.
Freestanding or fixed, each one draws its line lightly. The pattern decides how much passes and how much is held.
